Papaleo Palace is located inside the historical center of typical village in the Salento region, 8 km from Otranto. The old palace (prior to 1841) is composed of 16 rooms developed on three independent levels besides two spatious cellars. The entrance at the ground floor is vaulted with a barrel vault and opens on a internal court yard with well-reservoir. The old kitchen at ground floor is equipped with an old artesian well and fireplace. All rooms are vaulted with “star” vaults, “ribbed” vaults, “barrel” vaults, typical in the local construction tradition. The vaults are decorated with fresco motifs realized in the 1920s. On the first floor a spacious panoramic balcony opens up on the central square of the village with a view on the Aragonese Castle and the baroque clock tower. Spacious roof terraces on the third floor benefits from a panoramic view on the surrounding olive groves. Located at few minutes from the sea shore of Otranto, Gallipoli and Santa Maria di Leuca the palace is easily accessible by train (Lecce station, 20 minutes by car) and by plane (Brindisi airport, 45 minutes by car or bus). contact palazzo.papaleo@gmail.com
