Convent of Senhora da Vitória

Located at the Village of Castelo de Vide in Alentejo, Portugal, 10 km away from Marvão and 17 km away from Portalegre.
This ancient building was built in 1639 with the objective of providing the Religious Order of Saint John of God with proper accomodations. It was a Convent for almost two centuries until 1800, by this time it was transformed into a Military Hospital as a consequence of the Napoleonic invasions. After this period it was abandoned becoming, eventually, a ruin. In 2005 was completelly restored, using traditional materials and technics, recovering once again all its original splendour.
Nowadays the Convent has a set of living rooms, with areas from 40 sq meters to 120 sq meters, 5 bedrooms, areas between 30 and 50 sq meters, 7 bathrooms and a Chapel.
The Convent stands in a farm, with 36500 meters (3,65 ha), amongst trees, mainly Olive trees (around 600), but also Oak trees, Chessnut trees, Cork trees, etc... The farm, with its breathtaking sights from the sorroundings, is also home for a big water tank and a fountain, which are supplied by an underground water mine.
