Part of Tinharé archipelago, Ilha de Boipeba (150 km from Salvador) is located at the mouth of the Una river in the State of Bahia. Founded by Jesuits in 1537, Boipeba is one of the oldest sites in Bahia colonized by the Portuguese.
The island has four villages: Velha Boipeba, São Sebastião, Moreré and Monte Alegre. Hiking trails along the beach, through the Atlantic Rainforest and across the island are the main highlights.
It's a perfect place to get away from the crowd and to be in touch with nature. There are several nice pousadas (inns), pretty good restaurants, miles of beaches and crystal clear sea.
